Terry H. Saxon Decides Against Purchasing Md's 2 Largest Horse Tracks
Maryland Racing Commission member Terry H. Saxon has decided not to proceed with a bid to buy Pimlico Race Course and Laurel Park, the state's two largest horse tracks. Meanwhile, a prominent racing executive says he expects the Preakness Stakes to remain at Pimlico for at least another year. Some have feared the $1 million Preakness, Maryland's most famous sports event, might be moved to suburban Laurel or out of state because of financial problems facing track owner Magna Entertainment Corp.
First of Its Kind Insider Info Case Tied to Md. Firm
In a first of its kind complaint, the National Association of Securities Dealers has charged a Florida broker with extorting a publicly traded Germantown company to divulge insider information, the group said yesterday. The charges allege that Shawn E. Aaron called Optelecom-NKF Inc. in April 2004 and threatened to cut its stock price in half if the Tampa, Fla., broker was not given proprietary information on the maker of fiber optic equipment.

Representatives on both sides of Maryland's smoking ban debate are hoping to score a victory in the nation's capital. A hearing for three bills proposing to change Washington's municipal laws to ban workplace smoking lasted into the evening yesterday. Industrial Parcel Reaches Market in Harford County
One of the largest parcels of developable, industrial land to hit the Greater Baltimore market this year went on sale yesterday. The asking price for the 602,000-square-foot former Gap Inc. distribution center in Edgewood, and 175 surrounding acres of land, is $21 million. Brokers representing the seller called the price a bargain considering the site's proximity to Interstate 95 and CSX rail lines.
Baltimore Orioles Subsidiary Broadcast Battle Brews with Fcc Request
The Baltimore Orioles subsidiary behind Mid-Atlantic Sports Network Inc. asked the Federal Communications Commission late yesterday to order Philadelphia-based Comcast Corp. to immediately begin carrying Washington National games.
