Credits Could Spark a Surge in Teleworking in Montgomery County

Hoping to encourage more telecommuting in Montgomery County, the County Council this week approved regulations for companies to claim a tax credit for computers used by teleworkers. The credit makes Montgomery County the first jurisdiction to take advantage of a state law passed in 2002 that allows local governments to create credits against local taxes for telecommuting.

The Long Island Power Authority is calling on all Long Island towns to follow the Town of Brookhaven's lead on Energy Star requirements for all newly constructed homes. With further details expected to be announced at noon today at Brookhaven Town Hall, LIPA is citing the Brookhaven Town Board's June 23 adoption of Energy Star standards designed to increase energy efficiency in new homes. Long Island-Based Park Electrochemical's Profit Climbs

Park Electrochemical said Wednesday its fiscal first-quarter profit jumped 39 percent on strong sales of its circuit-making materials. Profit for the quarter was $8.9 million, compared to $6.4 million in the same quarter last year (or $5.3 million, minus $1.1-million charge for employment termination benefits).
