Baltimore County Set to Hire Calif. Firm to Review Contracts

As part of its effort to set minority contracting goals capable of withstanding a court challenge, the administration of Baltimore County Executive James T. Smith Jr. has hired an Oakland, Calif.- based consulting firm to determine whether minority- and women- owned businesses are receiving their fair share of county contracts.

If the Baltimore County Council approves the $238,522 contract, Mason Tillman Associates will spend the next two years evaluating all past county purchasing contracts. The council is scheduled to vote on the Mason contract June 21.
