When Babe Ruth bought a bar for his father in Baltimore City in 1916, he probably had no idea that his name could potentially save the institution from condemnation more than 85 years later.

That's what the bar's current owner, George Kritikos, is counting on. As Kritikos sees it, the future of the Goddess nightclub on the corner of Eutaw and Lombard streets may depend on whether he is successful in getting the building listed on the National Historic Register.
