In metropolitan Baltimore, we've seen a steady increase in employment, according to Robert Hannon, assistant secretary for the Department of Business and Economic Development's Baltimore region. During the past year, metropolitan Baltimore - which includes Baltimore City and Baltimore, Harford, Carroll, Howard and Anne Arundel counties - has increased the number of jobs by 13,600.

Central Maryland's Economy Prospering
Unemployment in the region, in turn, has decreased from 5.2 percent last year to 4.9 percent the same time this year. However, the news in Baltimore City wasn't quite as hopeful: While in August 2004, the unemployment rate had dropped to 8.8 percent from 9.1 percent in August 2003, that compares with a state unemployment average of 4.1 percent.
