Summary
One hundred years ago this month, the Yellow Cab Company began taking Baltimoreans where they wanted to go when they wanted to go. Today the oldest known Yellow Cab business in the country operates 600 of the city's 1,151 cabs but has transformed into a diverse transportation business that gets less than 10 percent of its revenue from taxis.
There have been hard times along the way. Mark L. Joseph's family owned Yellow Cab for nearly 50 years before selling it in 2001 to Paris-based Veolia. After his father took over the faltering business in 1974, Joseph was brought in to oversee operations and manage the fleet, which had shrunk from 300 cabs to 50.See the full content of this document
