Summary


Information requested from the University of Maryland by a construction subcontractor concerning the total forecasted cost for renovations of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union was neither privileged nor confidential, the Court of Appeals held yesterday.

While this was technically a loss for the state, the court recognized that the government has a right to protect confidential commercial information from disclosure, said Assistant Attorney General Dana A. Reed, who added that the issue was one of first impression in Maryland. That was the most significant thing in the type of contractual setting we had here.
