Despite his ambition to take on new challenges as executive director of the D.C. Lottery and Charitable Games, Buddy Roogow knows that as he departs, the Maryland Lottery faces challenges of its own.

After 13 years, Roogow will vacate his post as director of the state lottery at the end of November as the agency works to get Maryland's slots initiative up and running. Licenses for slots casinos have already been awarded for sites in Cecil County and near Ocean City, but obstacles remain for the proposed facilities in Anne Arundel County and Baltimore City.
