The Baltimore-based National Federation of the Blind has struck a deal with Amazon.com to help make the online retailer more accessible to blind people.

The organizations have pledged to work together to improve the compatibility of Amazon.com's Web operations with "screen access" software that aids the blind in navigating the Internet. Blind people often use the Internet with the aid of computer programs that convert visual information into audio or Braille, but certain Web sites are not designed in such a way that they translate properly.
