Sex offenders watched
Maryland soon will participate in a pilot project to establish an online national sex offender registry. The system, run by the U.S. Department of Justice, would link state registries and give the public immediate access to a national registry. Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey are participating in the pilot project, according to an announcement by Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich's office. If the pilot is successful, all state registries would soon be included, and employers, police and residents could use the system to find out quickly if a person is a registered sex offender in any state. The National Sex Offender Public Registry aims to have at least 20 states online and available for public searches within two months.See the full content of this document
