Maryland Officials Attribute Tourism Increase to Economy, Travel Adds

State officials attributed a 33 percent increase in tourism during the first six months of the year to an improving economy and a series of commercials that have drawn criticism from Democratic legislators.

The findings were part of a study by the Travel Industry Association of America, which estimated 24 million people visited the state during the first half of this year, compared to 20 million during the same period last year.
