Md Racing Comm. Gives Thoroughbred Industry Parties Until Dec. 1st to Settle On a Schedule

Maryland Racing Commission Chairman John P. McDaniel yesterday gave thoroughbred industry parties until Dec. 1 to reach a settlement on a schedule for live racing days for next year. Due to the scope of negotiations, people involved said that may be easier said than done.

In addition to ongoing talks about the racing schedule, last week the Maryland Jockey Club, which runs Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore City and Laurel Park in Anne Arundel County, introduced an issue involving expenses. The move has prompted officers in the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, which represents horse owners and trainers, and the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, which represents farm operators, to increase their activity among its memberships in trying to craft consensus.
