For Rockville-based Hsu Development Co., the hardest part of the $3 million renovation to the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial in Arlington, Va., is not the extensive ground and lighting work meant to breathe new life into the monument. Instead, it's something many people may not even notice - getting the color of the concrete used in the statue's base just right.

Located at Arlington National Cemetery, the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial is a symbol of the sacrifices made by Marines since the service was created as part of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. The centerpiece of the memorial is a bronze reproduction of Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal's iconic picture of six soldiers planting the American flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945.
