Five days of waiting came to an end Wednesday morning, when sleep- deprived biotechnology executives handed in their applications to receive coveted funding from the state's biotech tax credit fund.

Maryland awards the tax credits on a first-come, first-served basis, leading 11 firms to send representatives to the University of Maryland BioPark in Baltimore to start lining up on Friday to guarantee getting a piece of the $6 million tax credit pool.
