Numerous minority-owned, Maryland-based advertising agencies fear the University of Maryland University College's decision to select a New York firm to handle its marketing contract will result in a loss of business for state minority firms.

By awarding the $6.5 million contract to an out-of-state agency, advertising officials said, the ripple effect could be very strong for Maryland's minority businesses.
