Wrongful Birth: A Question of Choice

For a Maryland couple who already had one CF child, those odds weren't good enough. They knew they both carried the recessive delta F508 mutation - which causes one of the most severe forms of the disease - and they wanted to make sure they would not have to go through the same anguish twice.

So when the wife became pregnant for a second time in 1999, the couple had genetic testing performed on the fetus - and terminated the pregnancy when those tests indicated that the fetus had CF.
